Normal DVD players will not play Blu-ray discs

  • Rharris

True, you must buy a player that specifically states that it plays Blu-Ray discs. They run from $200+

It's the same with HD DVD's and Blue-Ray discs?unless a player states they can play either; they won't run. Be careful too because HD DVD's and Blue-Ray discs are 2 separate things and are incompatible with each other so a player will play 1 or the other but not both. Soon enough though Blue-Ray will be all that is available as it will be the future of movies/televeision viewing. Regular DVD's and DVD players will soon be just like our distant friend... the VHS and VCR.

Blu-Ray discs boast better sound and video quality. It's HD on another level.

  • trussel02

The format was developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video, as well as storing large amounts of data. The format offers more than five times the storage capacity of traditional DVDs

What are the differences between Blu-ray and HD DVD?

Blue-ray has a larger capacity than a HD. Almost double the rate actually.

HD DVD's are cheaper but there are more titles on Blue-Ray then HD. Both have excellent sound but Blue-Ray wins upon comparison.

And they actually won overall now. HD DVD threw up it's white flag and announced that they no longer would produce HD DVD material. This launched Blue-Ray as the official future of high definition entertainment. So if you are looking to get any high quality movie or dvd player... look for it in Blue-Ray. Otherwise I would still stick with regular DVD's and players because the future isn't here just yet which means right now anything Blue-Ray is really expensive.
